Frequently Asked Questions About Hearing Aids

Hearing Resolutions Center – Lake Charles, Louisiana
Is the cost covered by insurance?
Insurance coverage for hearing aids varies from one plan to the next. Some policies offer partial coverage, others offer none at all. Medicare doesn’t cover hearing aids, but certain Medicare Advantage plans do. The best way to know what your plan includes is to call your insurance provider — or we can help guide you through the process during your visit.

Do you offer payment plans?
Many our hearing aid clients prefer monthly payments, Hearing Resolutions Center offers financing through CareCredit and Healthi-plan. If you require flexible payment options, we’re happy to help you explore these options.

Why are hearing aids so expensive?
Hearing aids do a lot more than simply make things louder. Today’s devices are tiny computers that process sound in real time, reduce background noise, and adjust automatically to your environment. Add in professional testing, precise programming, follow-up care, and long-term support. When you invest in a quality device, you’re really investing in better hearing, better communication, and a better daily life.

Can hearing aids cure my hearing loss?
Hearing aids don’t “cure” hearing loss, but they can make a tremendous difference in how well you hear and communicate. They work by amplifying and processing sound to match your hearing needs, helping you stay connected to conversations and the world around you.

Will hearing aids restore my hearing to normal?
They won’t restore hearing to the level you had years ago, but they can give you a much clearer, more comfortable listening experience. Most people notice big improvements in conversations, TV listening, and overall sound awareness once they get adjusted.

Will hearing aids help me hear better in a noisy environment?
Background noise is challenging for anyone, especially for those with hearing loss. Modern devices include directional microphones and noise-management features designed to help you focus on the sounds you actually want to hear. The right technology — paired with a proper fitting — makes a noticeable difference.

Can hearing aids help with tinnitus (ringing in the ears)?
Yes. Many people with tinnitus find relief using hearing aids because they increase external sound and reduce the contrast between quiet environments and the ringing sensation. Some models even include built-in tinnitus therapy programs.

Do I need a hearing test before buying hearing aids?
Absolutely. A professional hearing test is the first step. It tells us what type of hearing loss you have and what level of technology will work best for you. It also helps rule out medical issues that may need attention before you consider devices.

How long does it take to get used to hearing aids?
Most people need about one to two weeks of regular wear to fully adjust. Your brain has to relearn how to process the sounds you’ve been missing, so patience is important. We’re here to help coach you through the adjustment period.

What can I expect at my fitting?
Your fitting is a hands-on appointment where we program your hearing aids, make sure they feel comfortable, and teach you everything you need to know — from cleaning and maintenance to daily use. You’ll leave feeling confident and supported.

What is the typical lifespan of a hearing aid?
With proper care, most hearing aids last between five and seven years. Regular maintenance and keeping them clean can help extend their life.

What’s the difference between over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription hearing aids?
OTC hearing aids are designed for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss and don’t require a hearing test. Prescription devices, on the other hand, are customized to your exact hearing needs and are ideal for all levels of hearing loss — especially moderate to severe. If you’re unsure which category you fall into, a hearing evaluation will point you in the right direction.

Should I try hearing aids again if I didn’t like them in the past?
Yes — without hesitation. Hearing aid technology has changed dramatically over the last few years. Today’s devices are smaller, clearer, smarter, and far more comfortable. If your old pair ended up in a drawer, it’s worth revisiting the idea. You may be pleasantly surprised by how much the experience has improved.
